1. Marina Diamandis, AKA Marina and the Diamonds
Marina is glam as they come; there's no denying. I got to see her live at Boston Calling in May & it was one of the greatest concerts I've ever been to- despite the rain and the cold, Marina put on a fabulous show.2. Katy Goodman, AKA Kickball Katy, of Vivian Girls & La Sera
Lo-fi girl rock is a summer staple, and Katy Goodman has it down. The garage sound of Vivian Girls and the beach vibes of La Sera make the perfect summer road trip soundtrack. Plus, I can't get over how cute she is! With blunt-cut bangs and a plethora of adorable vintage outfits, Katy steals the show in every music video.3. Kate Nash
I'd never head of Kate Nash until I came across her video "Girl Gang." Thanks to the two-tone hair and the "punky elements" of her album Girl Talk, I fell in love.4. Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine
Florence Welch is impeccable- her music, her style, her personality, everything. Ever since hearing Lungs when it first released in 2009, I've been an avid Florence fan. Ceremonials only cemented my love for her.
5. Amanda Palmer, of Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra and Dresden Dolls
Amanda Palmer. Wife of Neil Gaiman & fabulous, fabulous artist. I went to her two night rock show & Kickstarter backer party last summer & I was blown away. She's gone from punk (Dresden Dolls) to emotional songstress (solo releases) to full on pop-rock star (Grand Theft Orchestra) in the span of her career, and I can't wait to see where she goes next.
So that's it for summertime songstresses~ have any music suggestions? Comment here or shoot me an ask @ the baedekersandbeasties tumblr.
